Art of Living Foundation and us

I'm no great fan of the Art of Living Foundation. I'm not a follower of RaviShankar, as well. But the good thing about the personality is that he isn't like the other bunch of gurus of India. He isn't a guru who conjures golden rings from nowhere; he isn't a guru who calls himself the avatar of god. He just seems to preach the very fundamental stuff that most of us are familiar with. When CNN-IBN put up a talk show today portraying spirituality as an export commodity that brings in money, I felt that it was a bit awkward on the part of an Indian TV channel to portray the whole conference as more of a business than a spiritual gathering. I dare not argue that the effort is purely spiritual, but its an effort that deserves to be lauded. Getting spiritual leaders of all religion under one roof who otherwise shun each other is in itself a great thing. If they discuss spirituality and try to clear the isolating notions that the different religions have created, it is even greater a feat. World would be a far better place when people stop taking religion seriously and put spirituality in its place.
